Open a new file - here I'm using a 500 x 500 at 300 dpi
resolution. If you're doing this for a printed scrapbook page,
you'll want to use a much larger size. Set the background color to
#9E9688 and the foreground color to #EFE3C6.
You can use different colors, but it is important that you have a slightly darker color as the background for the particle brush. Because we're going to use mode, some of the color from the background will be picked up when we come out of mode. If the background color is of the same hue as the foreground color, then the edges will just look like shadows. |

Now that you have your particle brush set up, press the
mode button:

Optional: Click on eraser and change
the angle to 45 and erase some of the edge on the right ![]() |

Click out of mode. Press Enter to select the background. Click on the background to the left of the torn edge. Right click - convert to object. Right click, Arrange, Bring to Front. We'll call this piece the torn paper and the lighter piece the torn edge. |
|
Fill the torn paper with a paper of your choice. Give the torn paper a shadow as shown at top left. Notice the color - it is the background color, not black. This helps to blend the edge of the paper with the torn edge. |

Select the torn edge piece. Menu->effect->Fills and Textures->Texture Filter - Settings as shown at left. Click OK. |

Here I've moved the torn edge piece a little to the left and added a shadow that is the same as the background color except a little darker. I also used the texture filter on the background. |

And here changed the background color to match one of the colors of the paper, used the texture filter and used the object eraser tool on the edge of the torn paper to roughen the edge a little more. |

Well, I've gone this far ... figured I might as well make
a scrapbook page.
I hope you've enjoyed this tutorial! |

Here's a page my friend Rosalie did using this technique! Good job Rosalie! |
