| An easy way to make torn paper edges. | |
| Open a new document,
background white. I used 400 x 400. Click on the standard
selection tool. Set your attributes as follows:
Note that the height is more than the height of the
document. That's so we don't have to be careful to position the
selection marquee at 0,0. Click in your document - you should see a
rectangular selection marquee - drag it so you can only see the
right side of the marquee in your document. We are just selecting the whole left side of the
document. Release the mouse button. Now press the mask button: |

Now your document has a white area on the left and a red (or your mask color) on the right. From the menu, choose effect->all->ripple. Use edge, medium, 100 for the settings. |

From the menu, choose effect->all->wind. I used "to the right", 20. |

Now turn off the mask. Note - If you want your edge to be seamless, you need to start with the correct dimensions in your document. I dragged NT56 (which is seamless) into my workspace as a new document. It was 600 wide by 400 high - that's why the original document was 400 high. |

Now you can add a shadow. right click, choose
shadow. Use the settings at left.
Depending on the fill you've chosen, you may want to use the dodge tool to lighten the edges of the page. |

Here, I started with a new document, selected a short wide rectangle, pressed mask, used effect->all->shear to bend it. Then effect->all->ripple. Then effect->all->wind (once left and once right). Unmask, convert to object, and fill. I added a shadow. |
