Download one or more of the Gems and save them.

Download the Crabby Curls AI Zip File.  Unzip the ai files and import into PI.   To import them into PI, do the following.   In your document, choose the path tool, then click on the shape button and then on custom shape button.  In the custom shape dialog, click on the import button and  navigate to where you extracted the .ai files and import them into your easy palette.

Open a new document.  I used 500 x 500.

Open one of the gem files you saved, and drag a gem into the new document.  Close the original gem document.  Here, I'm using gems007.png.  Center the gem in your document.

Personally, my favorite color is blue (as you can tell, since most of the gems are blue).  But I won't force my preferences on you!  Let's turn this "sapphire" into an emerald or a ruby or an amethyst.

It's really easy!  Select the gem.  Duplicate it. Make sure the gems are aligned together.   Now, using the layer manager  to choose the top gem, change the mode to "lighting".  Now apply a monochrome effect.  In PI10, it's under the photo menu, enhancements, monochrome.

Using the layer manager again, select the bottom gem and fill it with a color of your choice.  Here, I've used different fills on the bottom gem.

You may want to use the quick color adjustment tools

on the monochrome top gem to get different looks.

You can also use gradient or other fills for different looks.  The last gem shown here uses artist texture "AT24" with a hue shift of 201.

Select both gems and merge as single object.  Let's make a setting for our gem.
Use the magic wand tool, search connected pixels checked, and click on the white background.  Right click, invert so the selection is the same as the jewel shape.  Now right click, Border.  Use the settings shown. - Click OK.

Edit menu, trace edges, selection marquee. Click OK. Choose 3d round from the Mode drop down menu.  I edited mine to smooth out some of the edges.

Now apply materials to the path object.  Personally, I love the metal presets from Caroloyl.  Here, I've used her All Wool from the Deja Gold set.

Okay, lets add some fancy wirework.

In your easy palette double click on the ai shapes you just imported.  Here I've used cc03117.ai and cc03118.ai.  Apply the same preset you used on the edge path.  Duplicate and position the shapes as shown.

Here, I've used a round gem, a round path outline, the same shapes, and path wrap on the letters and outline.

And another one using other characters from the Crabby Curls font.
